Pioneering Spirit drives Citrus Heights to New Independence

Bee and Poppy

A relatively new incorporated city, Citrus Heights, California, maintains the pioneering spirit made famous by its early settlers dating back to the Spanish-Mexican period of growth in the mid 1800s. Primarily farmland and ranches, the Citrus Heights area has seen many transformations through the years culminating in its ultimate independence from Sacramento County in 1997, the year the city achieved incorporation status.

The need to improve the quality of life for residents was an important factor in the incorporation initiative for Citrus Heights which needed to define itself in the huge urbanized area it encompasses in Sacramento County.

Located about fifteen miles northeast of Sacramento, the family-friendly city of Citrus Heights is easily accessible to all major employment areas in the greater Sacramento area including Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Natomas and South Placer County.
